Understanding STDs Today

Saturday, May 12th, 2012

Each year, more than 19 million men and women are affected by STDs. Besides the common cold and the flu, STDs are the most common disease in the United States. The most important thing to remember when it comes to STDs is to stay informed. Understanding what to look for, what a STD is and how to get treated if you are infected is important for anyone who is sexually active.

The only way to ensure that you will not get a STD is to not have sexual intercourse. If you are sexually active it is necessary to use protection, make sure your partner is STD free and get regular check ups from STD clinics in San Francisco.

If you think you may be infected, there are different symptoms to look for depending on what type of STD you may have. Unusual discharge, sores or warts, burning while urinating, and itching are all signs that you may have a STD. If any of these symptoms persist, you need to go to a STD clinic in San Francisco immediately. It is also important to know that you may not ever get symptoms and still be infected or it may take up to a year to see any symptoms from a STD.

With the amount of people who are affected by STDs today, people should recognize the risk and take initiative to stay protected and STD free. Same day STD testing is available at more than 3000 locations nation wide. Be safe, and test today!

What is PID?

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) refers to infection of the uterus (womb), fallopian tubes (tubes that carry eggs from the ovaries to the uterus) and other reproductive organs that causes symptoms such as lower abdominal pain. It is a serious complication of some sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), especially chlamydia and gonorrhea. PID can damage the fallopian tubes and tissues in and near the uterus and ovaries. PID can lead to serious consequences including infertility, ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy in the fallopian tube or elsewhere outside of the womb), abscess formation, and chronic pelvic pain.
